TROUBLESHOOTING & INSTALLATION TIPS
(Because even the best installers have “oops” moments — and it’s all fixable!)
WELCOME TO THE WALLPAPER RESCUE SQUAD
So… things didn’t go exactly as planned? Maybe a panel decided to take a dive, a few bubbles popped up, or your brand-new wall paint is being a little too fresh for its own good. Don’t worry — you’re in the right place.
We’ve all been there (yes, even us!). Peel and stick wallpaper is an amazing invention, but like any DIY project, sometimes it needs a little troubleshooting and patience. The good news? Everything you’re about to read actually works — no fluff, no guesswork, just tried-and-true solutions from someone who’s seen it all, fixed it all, and still loves wallpaper enough to keep doing it.
So roll up your sleeves, grab a pin, a spray can, and maybe a cookie or two ? — because we’re going to get your walls looking fabulous again.
BUBBLES HAVE APPEARED UNDER THE DECAL
Ah, the mysterious bubble — the little troublemaker that loves to pop up when you least expect it! Don’t worry, this is an easy fix and totally normal.
Sometimes, a day or two after installation, a bubble might sneak back under your decal. It’s usually just a bit of trapped air (or a little dust or oil that prevented perfect adhesion). Here’s how to handle it like a pro:
Step 1: Grab a sewing pin or fine needle.
Step 2: Gently poke a tiny hole right in the center of the bubble.
Step 3: Use your fingers to smooth it out in a circular motion, pushing the air out through that little escape route.
That’s it — the bubble’s gone, and your wall looks great again!
Now, if bubbles keep coming back again and again (they can be stubborn little things), there’s usually something else at play. Your wall might have a thin layer of oil, dust, or cleaning residue — or it could simply be too freshly painted. If that’s the case, you might want to move your decal to a new spot where the adhesive can stick properly.
And remember: walls painted within the last 6 weeks are not decal-friendly. Paint that’s still curing releases gases that can cause bubbling under your decal — so timing is everything!
WHY IS PAINT SO IMPORTANT
Let’s talk paint — the quiet but powerful partner in your decal’s success story.
Most walls are painted, but not all paints play nicely with decals. In fact, unlike signs or smooth glass, your wall’s paint type can make or break your installation.
Here’s the quick rundown:
- Enamel paint = Best friend. It’s smooth, non-porous, and allows your decal adhesive to bond beautifully — just like glass or aluminum would.
- Latex paint = Trickier friend. It’s more porous, so it doesn’t provide that tight, solid grip vinyl needs.
But the real culprit behind most decal drama? Out-gassing.
Freshly painted walls release tiny invisible gases as the paint cures. When you apply a decal too soon, those gases get trapped underneath — forming bubbles, or worse, weakening the adhesive so much that your decal can’t hold on.
That’s right, I said it: failure.
So here’s the golden rule:
Always let your paint cure for at least 6 weeks before applying any peel & stick or vinyl product.
Your wall — and your beautiful design — will thank you.
WHEN YOUR PEEL & STICK WALLPAPER TAKES A NAP ON THE FLOOR
Don’t panic — this can absolutely be fixed!
If you walked into the room and found your beautiful wallpaper panels sliding down the wall (or worse — all on the floor), take a deep breath. I know exactly how that feels… it’s not fun. But here’s the good news: you can totally bring them back to life and re-stick them. No need to throw anything away or start over!
WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN?
This only happens with peel and stick wallpaper, and almost always with Canvas media (yep, the heavy-duty one).
Canvas looks amazing — rich texture, high quality — but it’s also heavier than fabric. Even though its adhesive is strong, when it lets go, gravity doesn’t forgive. The result? Panels on the floor.
The secret weapon that stops this from ever happening again:
EZ Hang Spray by Roman
This spray is magic in a can — it’s 100% effective at keeping peel and stick wallpaper (especially Canvas) right where it belongs. When used correctly (sprayed generously before installation), your panels stay up forever.
So next time, skip the suspense and use the spray!

OKAY, MY PANELS FELL — NOW WHAT?
Don’t worry — you can still fix this. It’s not easy, but it’s doable.
Grab a coffee, put on some music, and let’s get those panels back up.
Whatever you do — do NOT throw them away!
All peel and stick wallpaper can be re-applied with a little patience and the right tools.
YOU’LL NEED:
- EZ Hang Spray by Roman (the hero of this story)
- A clean flat surface
- A helper (trust me, it’s a two-person job)
- A soft cloth or rag
- Patience and maybe a cookie
STEP-BY-STEP TO RE-STICK YOUR PANELS
Step 1: Gently separate the panels
If the panels have folded or stuck to themselves, take your time. Go slow and steady.
- Canvas is vinyl-based — pull too hard and it might tear.
- Fabric is tougher — you’ve got more wiggle room.
- A helping hand makes this much easier (and less stressful).
Step 2: Keep the sticky side CLEAN
As you separate each panel, place it sticky side up on a clean surface.
No dust, no crumbs, no cat hair (seriously).
If the adhesive picks up debris, it won’t stick properly.
Try to get them back up within a few hours — fresh adhesive works best!
Step 3: Spray the back of the panels, not the wall
This is the big fix! Shake your EZ Hang Spray, then spray the back (the sticky side) of your panel generously.
Once coated, carefully line it up on the wall and press it in place.
Step 4: Smooth and set
Use your hands or a soft cloth to press and smooth the panel, working from the center outward to remove extra liquid or bubbles.
Step 5: Repeat
Keep going, one panel at a time, remembering your overlaps. It’s a process — but totally worth it.
FINAL THOUGHTS
I’ve been exactly where you are, staring at fallen panels thinking, “This cannot be saved.”
But it can! I’ve done it, and I promise — with a bit of patience (and that trusty EZ Hang Spray), your wallpaper will look just as good as the first time… maybe even better.
So take your time, laugh at the chaos, and get your beautiful wall back up.
You’ve got this!
And hey — if some panels are beyond saving (maybe they ripped, got crumpled, or your cat decided to leave a comment), we can help with that too.
We can reprint replacement panels for you — just reach out, and we’ll make sure to give you a break on the price.
While this situation isn’t our fault, we totally get it — it takes a village to raise those panels onto the wall. ❤️
